Deni Herrera

REGISTERED PSYCHOTHERAPIST

Hello! Hola!

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. I provide treatment to adults and adolescents and offer services in English and Spanish.

Open-minded and compassionate

My goal is to help you navigate your unique pathway to healing and well-being. While other therapists may try to impose one treatment model, I understand that a one-size-fits-all approach is not always effective. I draw upon my training in Psychoanalytic theory, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and other client-centred approaches to create a tailored treatment plan that supports your unique needs and strengths. I will listen to you with an open mind and together, we will work to make your healing journey feel respectful of you as a whole person.

Trauma-focused and experienced

I have worked in mental health for over two decades providing individual and group therapy to children, adolescents, and adults. My experiences have focused largely on supporting individuals through anxiety and depression as well as coping with the aftermath of abuse, trauma, violence, and poverty. I have worked with survivors of sexual abuse, and other traumatic events including motor vehicle accidents and work-related injuries.

In addition to my trauma work, I have a passion for supporting individuals as they navigate new life experiences such as motherhood. I work to help new mothers feel safe and supported as they navigate the new and sometimes difficult feelings, thoughts, and behaviours that accompany this life change.

Culturally responsive

As a native Spanish-speaking psychotherapist, I value the power of diversity and I embrace the richness of all cultures and backgrounds. I respect the challenges and barriers faced by vulnerable demographics and enjoy working with diverse populations. With compassion and cultural sensitivity, I aim to understand the different challenges and barriers faced by minorities, immigrants, and vulnerable groups as they encounter mental health difficulties. My work is grounded in trauma-informed care and embedded within an anti-oppressive framework.

My history

I received my Masters degree in Psychology from the Metropolitan Autonomous University in Mexico City. I have two decades of professional experience working in community mental health, educational settings, within the criminal justice sector and in private practice. I have also engaged in research and teaching to support educators in understanding students’ educational needs.
